Getting around Cozumel
It is very easy and safe to get around Cozumel, since there is only one road that circles the island. There is one city on the island and it is named San Miguel (St. Michael). This is where most of the 80,000 residents call home. The people of Cozumel are very friendly and welcome your visit. Plus, crime is virtually non-existant here, unlike other Caribbean islands.

MAP CLOSE-UP'S

Important note: Most of the streets in town are one way, with the north and south bound traffic not having to stop. However, on the east and west bound streets, you must stop and use extreme caution when proceeding. Many people have been injured needlessly getting in a hurry. Don't be another statistic! You're on vacation...what's the hurry, man?

Cruise Ships and Terminals
Cozumel is now one of the most visited cruise ship destinations in the western hemisphere! With almost two and a half million passengers and half a million divers and vacationers per year, this once sleepy island has seen a lot of change, but thankfully, has not lost its small island charm!

There are now three cruise ship terminals in Cozumel. All three are located on Ave. Rafael Melgar, one in downtown and the other two, a couple of miles south of the city.
The Punta Langosta Pier is downtown and the cruise ships from Disney, Holland America and Crystal dock here. During high season, some ships from Carnival and Norwegian will also dock here. Princess, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Celebrity dock at the International Pier and Carnival Cruise Lines has exclusive rights at the Puerta Maya Pier.

If you are not in a rush and want to soak up some breathtaking views, try walking from your cruise ship into town. Along this beautifully landscaped road, you will notice the varied blues and greens of the Caribbean Sea and feel the gentle ocean breeze as you stroll. On hot summer days, you may want to take a cab, since it is a two mile walk from these two terminals. T
he waterfront street Ave. Rafael Melgar is where you will find the majority of t-shirt, souvenir shops, restaurants, hotels and party places. Don't limit yourself to just this street. By all means, go and venture off the main street and explore the real charm and feel of this island! It is safe and friendly. Some of the best places to eat and shop are just a few blocks back.

Cozumel offers many different lodging options, both in downtown San Miguel and the island's less populated outskirts. Ifyour primary concern is beach access, the best option is to stay at one of the more prestigous hotels like Wyndham Resorts or El Cid La Ceiba, so that you can enjoy well-maintained beaches while sipping a margarita then jump right into activities like snorkeling and scuba diving. Therre are also plenty of other options like rental villas, all-inclusive resorts, quaint B&B's, timeshares and traditional motels - something for every style of vacations - lazy and active alike!

When you're ready for some island exploring outside the city, grab a moped, jeep or car rental and head out. Ave.Benito Juarez will take you east across the island and end at Mezcalito's Bar and Grill. This is a great place to stop. You are welcomed with a gong of the bell, take a chance on the ring toss for a free shot, eat fresh fish, drink famous margaritas and ice cold beer! Island time often starts and ends here!

If you choose to get out of your hammock or beach chair and continue your journey, head south (turn right) and prepare to take in some incredible ocean vistas and inspirational views! There are plenty of stops where you can take photos of fabulous beaches, swim, chill out and sample the local water - otherwise known as cervesas and margaritas!

From the highest natural point on the island at Coconuts Bar & Grill to El Mirador's limestone cave and waterspout, to the turtle nesting areas of Chen Rio, down to the beaches, crashing surf and loco topless tourists at Bob Marley's Paradise Cafe, you are sure to have a great time!
